Some of the greatest dishes were created by mixing together a few ingredients that were already in the pantry, and Spaghetti Carbonara is one of those lucky creations. We can track its origins in Rome, and the best part is that it’s delicious and easy to prepare. For this reason at Great Harvest in Mentor, we would like to share this simple and delicious recipe.
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 cup grated parmesan
1 pound spaghetti
½ cup slab bacon
2 large eggs
Freshly ground black pepper
First things First
Take a saucepan and fill it with water, just above half of it and boil it. In the meantime, pour your olive oil into your pan and heat it, once it’s warm enough add the slab bacon, stir it frequently and remove it after it’s crispy.
Mix the Ingredients
Whisk the eggs thoroughly in a bowl and stir in the parmesan cheese. By this point your water should be ready, cook your pasta as the package suggests, this usually takes about 12-14 minutes. Now the tricky part, once the pasta is cooked, save ½ cup of the water of the cooking water before draining it.
The trick is trying not to overcook the egg. As the pasta’s still warm, add the egg mixture immediately and the bacon. Use the hot water to get a creamy consistency and season with salt and pepper to taste.
Needless to say, a delicious bowl of pasta should be accompanied by an exquisite slice of bread. If you are looking for the best bakery in Mentor, think about Great Harvest.
